Programme

The 2016 Calgary forum brought together researchers and clinicians for a public-facing session on how arthritis care is moving from broad-spectrum protocols toward personalised, precision approaches. Programme topics included:

  • The state of personalised medicine as it applies to musculoskeletal disease.
  • An update on stem cell research and therapy for joint disease.
  • The latest developments in personalising arthritis care — including biomarker-guided treatment and tailored rehabilitation.
  • The future of musculoskeletal research and precision medicine at the McCaig Institute.

About the Wood Forum

The Wood Forum is supported by the Wood Joint Research Fund, which honours the memory of Dr. John Wood and Mrs. Christena Wood. The forums were established to enhance public awareness of the causes, consequences and prevention of joint injury and disease, and to provide an opportunity for the public to discuss the latest research findings with leaders in the field.

The 2016 forum was the third in the series and was held in partnership with the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. Subsequent forums have continued annually on different themes — back and spine health (2019), shoulder and elbow injuries, and others.
